Making Clay Gargoyles

Fifth grade art has been so fun, that I have to share it on my “not so much a teaching ” blog (i.e. this one). We looked at the gargoyles on the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., then I set the students loose on their construction, starting with 2 pinch pots. It may be the season, but it has been fun to talk about the weird animal hybrids in the architecture (dog-pigs, dragon-birds, fish-birds, etc.). Here’s a sample (see pik).
