The Heart of the Matter

Just like any other career, becoming an artist is about who you are more than what you want to be,. Simply put, it is where your passion lies. Various activities of the past week have left me wondering, does the modern economy value creative thinking? Are creative minds being nurtured? So many people worry about jobs right now (and rightly so), are they also putting pragmatism ahead of their natural abilities? With that in mind, 21st Century Skills related to future jobs has emerged as a hot topic. From the online Business Week: “What was once central to corporations — price, quality, and much of the left-brain, digitized analytical work associated with knowledge — is fast being shipped off to lower-paid, highly trained Chinese and Indians, as well as Hungarians, Czechs, and Russians. Increasingly, the new core competence is creativity — the right-brain stuff that smart companies are now harnessing to generate top-line growth. The game is changing. It isn’t just about math and science anymore. It’s about creativity, imagination, and, above all, innovation. So, let’s start encouraging those folks whose passion is to be creative, instead of discouraging them.” Hey, it worked for Newton, Einstein, Lucas, and Jobs.
