Garage Musings

This summer will go down in family lore as “the summer of the garage.” Once the springs broke on our old, 350 lb. doors, we knew the time had come to replace and update. This led to pulling loads of family detritus out from the garage and subsequent painting, wiring, reorganizing. Now, my beloved silkscreens (all two dozen of them) are on the list of items that need to find a new home or get sold at the next garage sale. So, although it was over twelve years ago that I swore I would use them, the time has come to make it happen. My plan: move them to school, where I have long tables suitable for silkscreening (see, that studio addition we always thought we would build never materialized). Rather than using them on fabric, though, I am more inclined to start a series of paintings with them. Artists who have used the method : Andy Warhol (of course), Rob Ryan, Blexbolex, Arthur Okamura, Robert Rauschenberg, Harry Gottlieb. Hopefully, I will have some gallery pieces before 2010 is over.
